Kraft Macaroni Cheese

Kraft Macaroni Cheese

Kraft Macaroni Cheese

A quick meal that reminds you of 'home' all 15 boxes nicely packed in a compact way for storage at home or on the road in an RV!! Great deal that arrived two days after ordering!!

Kraft Macaroni Cheese

I have kids, grand kids, great grand kids and now a daughter in law who just love macaroni & cheese. Problem is keeping enough on hand and the cost at the store.
Kraft Macaroni Cheese
This is the same high quality you buy at the store but at a fraction of the cost. Since it practically never goes bad, I can keep it on hand ready to go whenever needed.

I would recommend this to everyone.
Kraft Macaroni Cheese
This macaroni and cheese is the best. I love having it on hand, mixing it with other ingredients, sort of like a hamburger helper but healthier because I choose what else goes in it. Good cheesy flavor. 15 boxes for $10 is a bargain, too, as I cannot drive to get to the grocery store.
Kraft Macaroni Cheese
Currently in Afghanistan and this is a perfect, easy item to make without requiring a lot of extras. I make it at work occasionally for the guys and it's always a hit. I depart from Afghanistan on Monday, but have 2 boxes left that will be fixed today! Thanks for shipping to APO.

Making Macaroni and Cheese in the Crockpot

Kraft Macaroni Cheese

As I sit here, with a mouth full of this fine Kraft product, I can't help but remember that fateful December afternoon. The war had ended some time ago, yet you could still hear the resentment resonating through the townsfolk's gnashed teeth. Jake and I were at the bar, as usual, trying to drink away the sun. The barkeep, sliding a filthy rag across the counter, squinted as he tried to read our shirts. He let a grin escape and shook his head.

"You got a problem, old man?" Jake took off his glasses.

Kraft Macaroni Cheese

The barkeep ran his forearm across his wrinkled face. "Ain't no problem here. You boys have guts, is all, wearin' those Kraft logos around these parts. This is a Stouffer's county."

Jake stood up, sliding his stool back across the hardwood floor. "If I wanted to choke down frozen food, I'd move my ass to Alaska. I'll take The Cheesiest any day." We used to call him Jake the Patriot. Always looking for a fight. I grabbed his arm in a vain attempt to pacify him. Looking around the room, I saw we were vastly outnumbered.

Kraft Macaroni Cheese

"Choose your next words carefully, son. Don't look like you're makin' many friends here." The bar patrons began edging closer to us. There was a wild look in their eyes; the kind that only came from malnutrition. I felt a moment of pity for them. Who could deny the inherent benefits of Kraft Macaroni and Cheese?

Jake discreetly slipped brass knuckles on underneath the counter. "You heard me." He turned, addressing the whole room. "Stouffer's is garbage." The patrons exploded. Frozen bricks of macaroni were tossed at us. We fought off near twenty men, leaving each one with regret. Jake turned back to the barkeep, spitting blood onto the floor. "That, old man, is why Kraft will always win

My daughter made the most delicious dinner last night. She is a macaroni and cheese lover. Her grandmother used to make macaroni and cheese from scratch, over the stove, while everyone else was buying boxes of Kraft. It was these memories that led her to want to try the macaroni and cheese in the crockpot.
This is a very cheesy, rich recipe.
Start with two cups of macaroni noodles - this can be made with either elbow macaroni or even penne pasta. Boil the pasta seven minutes. Pasta should be soft at this point. Drain the pasta but do not rinse.
While the macaroni is boiling, grab a sauce pan and combine four tablespoons of butter and two and a half cups of cheese. We like mild cheddar. The original recipe called for sharp cheddar. We also use a lower fat cheese, thus cutting out some of the calories. Stir the butter and cheese together over a low fire until the cheese melts.
Pour the melted cheese mixture into the crock pot and add in three scrambled eggs. We actually used one whole egg and two egg whites. I couldn't justify the extra yolks. Mix in one cup of sour cream. We used low fat sour cream. I've cooked with the non fat sour cream and the taste changes. If you can, stick with either low fat or regular sour cream.

Kraft Macaroni Cheese

Add in one can of cheese soup. Any brand is fine, we happened to use the popular national brand. We searched for a lower fat version of the soup and could not find one. Had we found it, we would have used it. Add in a half teaspoon of ground mustard and salt and pepper to taste. We are not salt users and the butter has salt in it, so we did not add any salt to our mac and cheese. We did add in pepper, probably a half teaspoon worth.
Stir everything together and then pour in drained noodles. Mix together to coat the noodles. We took off the lid three times to stir it. The more you remove the lid, the more cooking time you'll need.
The sauce thickened in between each stirring. The sides and bottom ended up being just a little browned and crunchy which I personally love.
Kids love cut up hot dogs in their macaroni and cheese. Add the hot dogs for the last 30 minutes of cooking.
As I read reviews on this recipe, I noted many people said theirs was overcooked. Make sure your crockpot is on low and make sure you stir it a few times while cooking.
We served this with a green salad and garlic bread and had a wonderful dinner that everyone enjoyed.

Parents - Are Your Kids Eating Too Much Salt?

Parents - Are Your Kids Eating Too Much Salt?

High blood pressure in children is not as rare as you might think. In fact, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has found that about 5% of children have blood pressure that's higher than normal. Less than 1% of children have blood pressure that's high enough to be classified as medically significant, but whenever a child's blood pressure is higher than normal, it's cause for concern. Those children face a much higher risk of developing dangerously high blood pressure as they age.

One of the main contributing factors in high blood pressure for people of any age is too much salt. Salt should be used very sparingly and, in most cases, not at all.

What can parents do?

The fastest and most effective change you can make is to stop serving your child processed foods. Most of the sodium in our diets comes from processed foods. For example, when you make a box of Kraft macaroni and cheese, one serving has 580 milligrams of sodium. Weigh that against the recommended daily allowance of sodium for adults, 1500-2400 milligrams, then adjust for your child's age and size. On the other hand, if you use a bag of pre-shredded cheddar cheese to make macaroni and cheese from scratch - skip the salt, which is unnecessary - it will take about the same amount of time but will cut the sodium by 25%! Even better, make it with low-fat cheese and a healthier alternative to butter, and serve it with a small salad to help fill up your child's tummy.

Macaroni and cheese isn't the only meal that comes from a box. Whenever you're tempted to pick up a boxed type meal, at the very least, take a moment to look at the nutrition information provided. Do this in the grocery store, before you decide whether you really want to bring this food into your home. Once it's home, you will make it, and your child will eat it. But if you read the nutrition information in the store and see that one serving has more sodium than your child should eat in a day, you will be more likely to return the box to the shelf and look for healthier alternatives. Soon, you may skip the packaged meal aisle altogether.

Honestly, healthy cooking doesn't have to take any longer than putting together a prepackaged meal. One kitchen tool that I highly recommend is a steamer. You can throw a few frozen chicken breasts into the steamer basket along with the vegetables, turn on the steamer, and then walk away. Give the kids a bath and, by the time you're finished, dinner is cooked. Sprinkle on some salt-free seasoning when the food is done. Nothing could be easier than that.

Fast food restaurants are notorious for using packaged foods, and like all packaged foods, they're heavily laden with salt. Limit your trips to a fast food restaurant to no more than once a month. If you must eat out more often than that, choose a local restaurant where the food is cooked fresh.

Want to learn more about healthy eating for kids?

A good place to start is at HealthyChildren.org, a website developed by AAP to teach parents about all health issues facing your children. It's your job to educate your children, and the first step is to educate yourself.

What is it about macaroni and cheese that makes heads turn and eyes light up? If I have anything on my plate that remotely resembles this dish my co-workers ask "Is that macaroni and cheese?" Sadly, I reply that it is not and then I start craving this tasty cheese dish.

I did not grow up having this delectable comfort food. I fell in love with it later in life. I have to confess that I absolutely LOVE macaroni and cheese and I pour over the index of any cookbook in bookstores or in the library to see if this classic is included. One day I will count the number of macaroni and cheese recipes that I have collected.

I recently found a recipe for macaroni and cheese that uses cavatappi pasta and is topped with potato chips and bacon. The  cavatappi pasta really grabs the sauce so every bite is generously coated with cheese and mixture of potato chips and bacon gives this dish an extra special crunch.

CRUNCHY MACARONI AND CHEESE

Ingredients for Mac and Cheese

6 Tbsp. butter
1 pound cavatappi pasta
6 Tbsp. butter
1/2 cup all purpose flour
4 cups milk, warmed
1 tsp. dry mustard powder
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. black pepper
1/4 tsp. cayenne pepper
Pinch of nutmeg (freshly grated, if possible)
Dash of hot sauce
Dash Worcestershire sauce
4 cups grated sharp white cheddar cheese
1 1/4 cups grated Pecorino Romano cheese

Ingredients for Potato Chip and Bacon Topping

1 1/2 cups crushed potato chips
1/2 cup grated Pecorino Romano cheese
5 slices bacon, crumbled
3 Tbsp. chopped fresh parsley

Directions

Heat oven to 375 degrees.   Spray a 3 quart casserole dish with cooking spray.

Cook pasta according to directions. Remove from heat when it is firm but not soft.   Melt butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add flour and stir for about one minute. Whisk in warmed milk and bring to a simmer. Continue to whisk while the mixture thickens.Stir dry mustard, salt, black pepper, cayenne, nutmeg, hot sauce, and Worcestershire sauce into the thickened milk. Stir in 3 cups of the cheddar cheese and ¾ cup of the Pecorino Romano cheese until the cheeses melt.Add the cooked pasta to the cheese sauce and toss to combine.   Pour the cheese mixture into the casserole dish.

For topping: In a medium bowl combine potato chips, crumbled bacon, parsley, and the remaining cheddar cheese and Pecorino Romano cheese. Sprinkle the crumb mixture on top of the macaroni and cheese and bake for 35 minutes. For a crunchier topping finish under the broiler for about 3 minutes or until golden brown and crisp. Remove from the oven and let cook for 5 minutes before serving.

This recipe will serve 6 to 8 hungry diners.

Although this recipe is a little more time consuming to prepare than more traditional macaroni and cheese dishes, it has a more grown up feeling and it will surely become a family favorite. This dish is also perfect for potluck or covered dish luncheons or dinners.

Ultra Creamy Macaroni and Cheese - Modified Kraft

Ultra Creamy Macaroni and Cheese - Modified Kraft

I love Kraft's Macaroni and Cheese much more than any of the other box brands I have ever tried. But my one complaint about it is that it gets really runny when you follow the directions perfectly. You have probably noticed this yourself; it seems as though the noodles are swimming amongst a sea of fake cheese liquid when you serve it on the plate.

Ultra Creamy Macaroni and Cheese - Modified Kraft

I love the Food, but have always hated that part of it. So, by my ever-experiMental nature, I tried a few little tweaks of the package directions until I came up with a result I like. If you are like me and like your Macaroni and Cheese ultra creamy, and have been frustrated by the results you get by following the instructions, try these two little tweaks.

1. Only use 3/4 the amount of butter recomMended. Too much butter gives the Food that slick, cheap texture.
2. Only use a splash of milk. The milk is what waters down the Macaroni and Cheese, so cut way back on it. I start with a quick splash and then stir. If it needs a little more, I will add a tiny bit at a time.

Since I "developed" this make-shift recipe, several people have given me compliMents. It is so different that they think I made it myself from scratch (of course some times I cheat and say I did).

And one last piece of advice, which is optional: After you have made your Macaroni and Cheese, put it under the broiler eleMent in the oven for 30 to 60 seconds. Doing so will brown the top and give it that extra home made look and taste.

Baked Pasta "Bianca" with Cream and Five Cheeses

Macaroni Cheese is the World's greatest comfort Food Here is the world's best Italian style Mac and cheese.

Ingredients

2 1/2 cups heavy cream
1/2 to 1 cup chicken stock
1/4 cup finely crumbled Gorgonzola
1/2 cup freshly grated Parmigiano-Reggiano
1/2 cup freshly grated Pecorino Romano
2 Tablespoons mascarpone
1/2 cup chopped or buffallo shredded mozzarella
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1 lb dried Pasta

Preheat oven to 500 degrees F. Bring a large bowl of water to a boil.

Method

Combine the cream, 1/2 cup chicken stock, all the cheeses, and salt in a large mixing bowl. Mix well. Taste and add more salt if necessary. Set aside.

Generously salt boiling water and add Pasta. Cook, stirring often, for 4-5 minutes. The Pasta should be parboiled and too hard to eat because the Cooking process continues in the oven. Drain the Pasta and add to the mixing bowl, combining thoroughly with the cheese mixture. If it seems too thick, add more chicken stock until the pasta moves freely and is surrounded by liquid.

Transfer to individual shallow baking dishes or 1 large shallow baking dish. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the pasta is bubbly hot. Serve right away.

The Hidden Dangers of Your Child's Favorite Boxed Macaroni and Cheese

The Hidden Dangers of Your Child's Favorite Boxed Macaroni and Cheese

We all know that macaroni and cheese has been dubbed as a comfort Food, but if you purchase the boxed kind for your child there could be dangers lurking with very bite.

The Hidden Dangers of Your Child's Favorite Boxed Macaroni and Cheese

The Hidden Dangers of Your Child's Favorite Boxed Macaroni and Cheese

Processed and unhealthy, just the color of the powder sauce alone should make one think. The Pasta, which is made from flour, is stripped of all of its nutrients. This means that it's really empty calories and will only turn to starch, which can cause weight gain and other health problems.

Of course it's easy enough to purchase a box containing whole grain Pasta instead. But, that doesn't eliminate the powdered sauce. That stuff is loaded with chemicals. So when it says imitation on the box it's another word for chemicals!

That one little packet contains poisons like FD & CYellow # 5 and # 6. These do nothing, but color the sauce into a yellowish orange because otherwise the stuff would probably look gray. Mmmm gray colored paste. Sounds appetizing doesn't it? Yep, you're not alone in thinking that's gross!

And if you've tasted the stuff recently you may have also noticed that it tastes a little bit sweet. That's because it contains sugar. If you're not familiar with how the Food industry works, almost anything you buy that is processed contains sugar. That's because without it the Food would be either bland or an unappetizing taste. It works in the same way those color chemicals work to make the product appealing and make the manufacturer money. Not to Mention that sugar is addictive. They are feeding your children addictive substances.

But yourbuck doesn't just stop there. That packet of sauce also contains a fattening secret known as partially hydrogenated oils. These very same oils are one of the reasons that heart disease is the number one killer of Americans.

And if you think that's something, you should take a closer look at how much sodium is in that packet of sauce. While it's healthy to have a little sodium in your diet, too much can actually raise your blood pressure.

So think about what you're really serving your child. Do you really want to go on feeding your child the boxed junk or would you much rather see them indulging in a macaroni and cheese that's made from Mother Nature. The choice is yours.

Slow Cooker Macaroni and Cheese Is an Easy Side Dish

Slow Cooker Macaroni and Cheese Is an Easy Side Dish

One of the most beloved childhood Foods is macaroni and cheese. Most of us can remember mom serving up a box of Kraft macaroni and cheese along with a hotdog or burger.

Slow Cooker Macaroni and Cheese Is an Easy Side Dish

Since its beginnings in 1937, Kraft's version has been a mainstay in the pre-packaged Foods section of the grocery store. Why not, it's easy and tastes good and kids love it. However, there is another easy and tasty way to go to get some delicious macaroni and cheese prepared for your family.

The earliest known Mention of macaroni and cheese was in Italy, which makes sense given that macaroni is dough after all. In the United States, history reports that one of the Founding Fathers, Thomas Jefferson, brought back theclassic recipe from Italy, along with a Pasta machine.

Naturally, many folks love the other classic macaroni and cheese that's baked in the oven. Of course that's a great dish, but creating it requires heating the oven. Using your slow cooker or crock pot saves energy and time. So you'll just need a good macaroni and cheese crock pot recipe. Slow cookers have been on the market for quite a while now, but unfortunately not everyone has yet to get on board with the simplicity of preparing all the ingredients, putting them in the pot and leaving the house for the day. Hopefully, this easy recipe will get you going if you haven't yet started enjoying slow Cooking.

The following macaroni and cheese recipe is simple and easy to prepareand turns out great.

Family Slow Cooker Macaroni and Cheese

1 (8 oz.) pkg. macaroni
1 large can evaporated milk
1-1/2 cups milk
2 eggs, beaten
1 tsp. salt
3 cups Cheddar cheese
Pepper to taste

Cook and drain macaroni. Grate cheese or use packaged shredded. Grease spray slow cooker with. Mix eggs and milk in a bowl and put in the pot. Reserve some of the cheese to put on top. Sprinkle with paprika. Cook on low for 4 hours.

If you'd like an easy variations or additions to this classic recipe, just add your favorite hot dogs chopped up or perhaps some ham pieces. Kids love this and will gobble it up; adults will too!

Kids' Favorite Foods

Kids' Favorite Foods

If you're a parent, you know that getting your finicky kid to eat is like trying to push a bolder up a mountain of molasses. It isn't easy. A kid's Menu at best consists of about five or six things that he or she will eat. So what's a parent to do? Well, at a recent survey taken in a small US town, about 100 kids gave the answer to their five favorite Foods, not counting desserts. While this survey no way dictates that all kids will answer the same, this should give you a pretty decent idea of what you're kid will eat if you're having problems getting Food in his or her mouth. So without further ado, our top five kids ' goods.

Kids' Favorite Foods

Kids' Favorite Foods

Kids' Favorite Foods

Kids' Favorite Foods

Kids' Favorite Foods

Coming in at number 5 was no surprise. Spaghetti and Meatballs was the overall number 5 choice. Kids seemed to like this more out of the canthan home made, however. And no fancy sauces like Marinara. Just plain out tomato or meat sauce was all they needed. Plus, no grated cheese on top. And not too many meatballs. Just 3 or 4 would be enough. Serving your kid a plate of spaghetti and meatballs would be more than enough to put a smile on his or her face.

In the number 4 slot was another Food that was no surprise. Hamburger on a bun was a sure winner. Again, nothing fancy as far as condiMents. No onions was big on the list of yucks. Kids absolutely hate onions and don't want them anywhere near their hamburger. Just some ketchup is all they require. And the buns have to be hamburger buns. No regular hard rolls and certainly NO seeds. Also, no whole wheat buns or rolls.

The third most popular meal on the Menu was the hot dog. It was interesting to see that the hot dog was more popular than the burgers, but not by much. As for how they liked their hot dogs, that varied quite a bit. Some kids liked them just with mustard. Others preferred mustard and sauerkraut. And then there was that group of kids who enjoyed their hot dogs with ketchup. Nobody seemed to like relish or anything fancy on their hot dogs cheese and NO dogs. That was another big yuck.

Just missing the top spot and number coming in at number 2 was fried chicken. Parents, don't bother making this at home. Kids voted Overwhelmingly, on Colonel Sanders Kentucky Fried Chicken and white meat only. And don't forget the biscuit that comes with it. They said without the biscuit it isn't as good.Makes you wonder if they loved the biscuit more than the chicken. Oh and the extra crispy gets a big thumbs up.

Finally, coming in at number 1 was macaroni and cheese. Again, don't try making this at home. This has to be, almost unanimously, Kraft Mac And Cheese. And of course no mac and cheese dish is complete without pouring ketchup all over it. By the time they are done with the ketchup you can just about see the mac and cheese.

And there you have it. The top 5 favorite foods of children. So if you're having trouble getting your kid to eat, you might want to start with these. If you need other favorites outside the top 5, at number 6 was pizza and at number 7 was peanut butter and jelly. Rounding out the top 10 was bologna at 8, salami and cheese at 9 and grilled cheese at 10.

Does Your Food Contain Heavy Metals?

Does Your Food Contain Heavy Metals?

What do lead, mercury, and arsenic have in common? They are all ingredients used in most artificial Food coloring. For example, FD&C Red Number 3 contains lead and arsenic; while FD&C Yellow Number 5 contains lead, mercury and arsenic. Studies have shown that lead and mercury are not only absorbed when ingested, they are also absorbed through the skin. How prevalent is artificial Food coloring? Just look in your pantry or your medicine cabinet. Everything from sports drinks, cereals, lotions, and shampoos to over the counter and prescription medicines contain artificial food coloring. Following are some examples of commonly used items that contain artificial food coloring: Food Items
Gatorade Fruit Punch - Red #40 Plain M&Ms - Red 40 Lake, Blue 2 Lake, Yellow 5, Yellow 6, Blue 1 Lake, Red 40, Blue 1 Kraft Macaroni & cheese - Yellow 5, Yellow 6 Eggo Waffles - Yellow #5, Yellow #6 Fruit Loops Red - No. 40, Blue No. 2, Yellow No. 6, Blue No. 1 Nutrigrain Blueberry Bars - Red 40, Blue 1 Strawberry Pop Tarts - Red 40, Yellow 6, Blue 1
Cosmetic Items
Johnson Baby Shampoo - D&C Yellow #10, D&C Orange #4 Johnson Baby Lotion - D&C Red 33 Dora Foam Soap - May contain FD&C Blue 1, FD&C Red 40, FD&C Yellow 5 Disney Chapstick - D&C Red No. , FD&C Blue 1 alum lk Crest Kids Sparkle Paste - FD&C Blue #1

Artificial food coloring has been implicated in several studies as a potential catalyst for ADHD. The Journal of DevelopMental & Behavioral Pediatrics published information regarding 15 trials with 219 particiPants - all were double-blind cross-over trials. Just by eliminating artificial food colorings from their diet, children's behavior improved significantly. Furthermore, eliminating food colorings from the diet was one-third to one-half of the size of improveMents typically seen with ADHD medication therapy. In addition, an article published in The Lancet in September of this year also confirmed a link between food dyes and ADHD.

Several studies also point to the link between lead and ADHD. One of the most recent was published in The Journal of EnvironMental Health Perspectives. According to the Journal, children with blood lead levels of more than 2 micrograms per deciliter were four times more likely to be diagnosed with ADHD than children with levels below .8 microgram per deciliter. The government's acceptable blood lead level is 10 micrograms per deciliter. The study estimates that more than 5 million 4-15 year olds in the U.S. have levels higher than 2 micrograms per deciliter. The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, estimates one out of every six children in the United States has blood lead levels in the toxic range.

What Can We Do? The first step is to remove colors from your environment. This can be difficult since colors are pervasive, but there are alternatives. For instance, if you need food coloring, health food stores sell colors made from food - turmeric, blueberry, beets, etc. These can be used to make play dough as well as to color foods. Health food stores also make available muffins, toothpastes, snacks, chocolates, drinks, and OTC medications that do not contain colors. Whole Foods has a policy to not sell anything with artificial food coloring. Trader Joe's does carry a few items with artificial food coloring, such as candy and a cleaner, but overall, there are very few products in the store with artificial food coloring. Cooking and eating as many meals as possible at home is also a step in the right direction. You can control what you put in your food. If you need to obtain medication and are not sure if it contains colors, you can check online at http://www.rxlist.com.

If your medication is made with colors, contact a compounding pharmacy to see if they can compound without all of the colors. A list of compounding pharmacies can be found at http://www.iacprx.org.

Suggested Itineraries & Routes - Head North on the Costa Brava for 1 week.

Day 1 - Barcelona - Join the boat in Port' Olympic. The marina is surrounded by good restaurants but some distance from the centre of Barcelona.

Day 2 - Port' Olympic - Tossa de Mar - 40 miles. Head NE. An important and very attractive anchorage. It is exposed to winds from the NE to SE and should be avoided if there are strong winds from this direction. The anchorage dates back to Roman times who called it Turissa. There are many interesting places to visit including a Roman villa, the Old Town, and a fine Baroque church. Like all of the Costa Brava there is a good deal of development but the rocky coast and local building regulations have prevented the extremes that can be seen further South. There are numerous attractive calas to the north, particularly Cala Bona.

Day 3 - Tossa de Mar - Palamos - 15 miles. Palamos is a fairly large town and has two marinas, one within the fishing harbour at the northern end of the bay, and another round the corner to the North. Both are very busy and booking ahead is recommended. It is famous locally for its fishing fleet and for the prawns that they fish. You can also anchor in the bay or consider going to nearby Calella de Palafrugell, a smaller and prettier anchorage. There are also other beaches and calas on the way that are worth investigating.

Day 4 - Palamos - L'Estartit - 20 miles. L'Estartit is situated at the far end of Pals Bay and has one of the areas best marinas. Just offshore are the Islas Medes, an underwater nature park, rich in diverse marine life and corals. You can take a glass-bottomed boat trip round them. The nearby town of Torroella with its leafy avenues and narrow streets is worth a visit, as are the medieval towns of Pals and Peratallada. The anchorages of Aiguablava and Sa Tuna, between Palamos and L'Estartit, offer some protection and are wonderfully scenic.

Day 5 - L'Estartit - Llafranc - 10 miles. Head SE back down the coast. Llafranc is one of the prettiest little towns along the coast. The marina is nearly always full and the beautiful bay offers little in the way of protection from almost any wind. However if the weather permits this is well worth a stop. The Hotel Llafranc and the Hotel Levant both have excellent beach side restaurants and there is a charming square beside the Llafranc where you can have a drink and tapas overlooking the lovely bay.

Day 6 - Llafranc - Blanes - 25 miles. The harbour is shared by yachts and fishing boats. It is busy in the summer and it is wise to book ahead. The town and surrounding area is pleasant. Visit the botanical garden, the 14th century church and the ruined palace. The view from Castillo de San Juan, on the hill behind the harbour, is worth the climb. To the W of the harbour is a fine sandy beach.

Day 7 - Blanes - Port' Olympic - 25 miles.

Day 8 - Disembark at Port' Olympic, Barcelona

History of the Area - Barcelona was founded by the Romans in 15BC. The city was conquered by the Visigoths in the early 5th century and by the Arabs in the early 8th century. It was re-conquered in 801 by Charlemagne's son Louis and was then ruled by the Counts of Barcelona. In 1137, Aragon and the County of Barcelona merged and the territories were known as the Crown of Aragon. The forging of a link between the Crowns of Aragon and Castile, in 1469, marked the beginning of the city's decline. Barcelona was always the stronghold of Catalan separatism and was the centre of the Catalan Revolt (1640-52) against Philip IV of Spain. The great plague of 1650-1654 halved the city's population. The Napoleonic wars left the province ravaged, but the post war period saw the start of industrialization. The resistance of Barcelona to Franco's coup d'etat led to the autonomous institutions of Catalonia being abolished and the use of the Catalan language in public life was suppressed. However Barcelona remained the heart of a region which was relatively industrialised and prosperous. And saw large-scale immigration from poorer regions of Spain, particularly Andalucia, Murcia and Galicia. In 1992 Barcelona hosted the Olympic which helped revitalize the city
